Telling the Story
with Sound

Production Sound Mixing for Directors, Producers and Filmmakers

An intensive two-day masterclass designed for directors, producers and filmmakers who want to understand how sound can become a decisive tool of storytelling, actor direction, set organisation and production quality. Through case studies, guided conversations and analysis of real set situations, the instructors will show how production sound is not merely technical recording, but a form of narrative interpretation.

Bastian Gerner — The Foley Teacher

Foley as
Storytelling

Body, gesture and sonic matter for film, animation and video games

An intensive two-day masterclass dedicated to the narrative role of Foley in film, animation and video games. Foley is often perceived as an invisible stage of post-production, yet it is one of the most powerful tools for giving body, presence and intention to images. Every footstep, fabric, object, movement or contact can change the perception of a character, the tension of a scene, the physicality of an environment or the credibility of a narrative world.

Bastian Gerner IMDb ↗The Foley Teacher
Foley artist with 15 years of experience in post-production and game audio. Trained at the Bavaria Film Studios in Munich, he was Senior Foley Artist at Ubisoft on international titles such as Avatar – Frontiers of Pandora, Assassin's Creed Nexus VR, Anno 1800 and The Settlers – New Allies. He has worked for Warner Bros. Since 2023 he has been The Foley Teacher, dedicated to training new foley artists and sound designers in his own Dolby Atmos studio in Düsseldorf.
"Show that foley is being used more and more — and bring foley to more people."

Writing, directing
and producing by listening

Sound as a point of view in the construction of a film

Sound is not a technical phase that comes after the image — it is a narrative tool that begins with the writing and runs through everything that follows. Lorenzo d'Amico De Carvalho and Anne-Riitta Ciccone will guide participants in working on sound as a narrative dimension already present in the screenplay, in the construction of characters, in the choice of locations and in the rhythm of scenes.
